Experimental demonstration on long-range time-reversal multiple-input/multiple-output underwater acoustic communication over tens of kbps in 12.5 km range

Abstract In this paper, the adaptive time reversal (ATR) technique combined with a single channel decision feed back equalizer (DFE) is applied to an at-sea experiment of underwater acoustic multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) communication utilizing signal bandwidth 4.5-8.5 kHz over distance 12.5 km. We focus on demonstration effectiveness ATR-DFE schemes for MIMO in real sea environment, and how much data rate could be achieved, changing parameters. It also investigated influences variation performances. Finally, relationship between effective bit error (BER) evaluated. As result, tens kbps achieved practical BER by ATR-DFE, it can said that performance would remarkable considering communication.
